Situated in the district of Idukki and at a height of around 6000 feet, this was the erstwhile summer resort for the British rulers during their days of colonial rule. With the loveliest plantations of tea and the most pristine of valleys and majestic mountains surrounding the place, the entire area of Munnar certainly doesn’t fall short of being a paradise on earth. Rightly so with the lovely species of fauna and flora here and with the vast expanse of greenery dotting the entire zone. Visit Mattupetty which lies around 13kms from Munnar and experience the exotic feeling of being at a height of around 1700 meters. Then you could go to the Lake Mattupetty and also the dam which is also very near to the farm. This is a favourite picnic spot for many and lies just a little distance away. With the huge tea estate of Kundala here the Lake Kundala adds to the attraction nearby. The DTPC Iddukki also has facilities for boating on the Mattupetty Dam. There are speed boats and also speed launches which make your experience even more exciting.

Then go to Pothamedu which lies around 6 km from Munnar. This also is an area of plantations of tea, cardamom and coffee. The green mountains, the lush green surroundings and the mesmerizing scenery of the place is the best reason you should come here. Enjoy trekking here and go on those long walks across the mountain and feel closer to nature.

Devikulam is another hill station which is near Munnar and worth a visit. This beach town lying along the beautiful Arabian sea is in the city of Thiruvanthapuram in the state of Kerala in India. It is situated around 13 km from this city.

Meaning a grove of coconut trees, the city of Kovalam got attention when the Regent Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bayi of the district of Travancore, got a beach resort built here. This was the Halcyon Castle built in the year 1920. Thus this region started getting slowly popular and today is a major tourist destination spot.

From a small fishing village to a major beach today, Kovalam has come a long way in Indian tourism. The Lighthouse Beach is the larger beach and has a 35metre light house which looms large over the place. It is on top of the Kurumkal hill. This beach lies in the southernmost corner of Kovalam. It is a popular tourist spot and is always visited by all. The beach is so called as the Vizhingam Lighthouse is situated here. The beach shines with its occasional lighthouse beams.

Then you have the Eve’s beach or the Hawa beach as it is more known as. This beach is actually the second in area and beauty in this area. There is a stone that separates this beach from the Lighthouse beach. This rock is called the Edakallu meaning a rock in between in Malayalam. This beach is comparitively cleaner.

The Ashoka  beach is as said before separated from the Hawa beach with a rock. The Halcyon Castle which was the origin of the beach resorts here is located on this beach. There are many rocks here. There is a beach near the Le Meridien. But this is a private beach. The Ashoka beach is not as clean and there are many dirty areas here. Efforts are being made to clean it up.

As you seep in the beautiful surroundings and enjoy the pristine ambience walk along and take a detour. Here you would find the Samudra Beach. Lying a little to the north of the Ashoka beach, there is a sea wall here. There is a beautiful sight of the waves that you can get here. The waves lash against the rock and render the entire ambience very memorable.

Kovalam beaches have a lot of risk attached to swimming and boating etc. So however enchanting it seems don’t go there without following required rules. There are areas of danger marked with red flags. Pay heed to these instructions and don’t spoil your travel by trying to be less cautious.

You can go in the boats, and also enjoy the monsoon here. There are also good night clubs here as also ayurvedic massages.

Visit the St. Sebastian’s Church here which is just around 23km from Allepey and lies to its north. It is a very important church here and in fact is a very important church in the whole of Kerala. It was believed to be built by St. Stephen and dates back to the first century.

You also have the Champakulam church which is also a great tourist attraction because it happens to be the oldest in the state of Kerala. Visit this and go back to the ancient ages of the past.

Then you have the Mullakkal Rajeswari temple which is thronged by all the Hindus who come here to see the Goddess Rajeshwari who is the presiding deity of the temple. It is situated in the middle of the city of Alleppey also known as Alapuzha.

Also the Hindus go to Chettikulangara Bhagavathy temple which is a popular pilgrim spot in Kerala. Many come here to get cured of their diseases as this temple is said to have lot of healing powers. The deity here is said to be very powerful and has powers of curing you of any disease.

Visit the Edakkal caves which is a popular tourist attraction here and come and see the scenic beauty in the hills of Ambukuthi. The caves have been formed because a cliff nearby split into two. The Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is world famous and it is obvious if you come here you have to visit this wildlife natural park and seep in the beauty of the entire place. Yes this is the time of the Garba, the lovely dance of the women around the traditional pot. This is the time of reverence to the Goddess of Power. This is the time when good triumphs over evil. This is the time of the Durga Puja, of the Bommai Kolu, of the Navratri to be precise. Come Navratri and the Garba occupy topmost priority.

In the ninth century the present day Gujarat was divided into Saurashtra, Aanarta, Kachchh and Laat. Saurashtra had the dance forms of Raas, Hudo, Garba and Tippani while Laat had the Dangi and the Holi Nritya as the dances of that region. Again Aanarta had the Garbi, Garba and the Bhavai as the dances and the Siddi Dhamal, Ged-do and Matukadi were the Kachchh dances.

Garba the popular Gujarati folk dance is an elegant, simple, graceful dance which is linked to the life of Lord Krishna and the game he had with the female cowherds or the gopis. Lord Krishna was the one who brought the Ras dance to popularity and the Lasya  Nritya was made famous by his grand daughter Usha. This Lasya Nritya came to be known as the Garba.

The Garba is a unique dance which is danced by the ladies on the day of Sharad Purnima, Navratri, Holi and Vasant Panchami. Garba refers to the Garbha Deep which is a lamp inside the perforated pot made of mud. It is said that the light inside the pot signifies the life in the embryo stage. The ladies during the Garba place the lamp on their heads and go in circles. They clap their hands while they dance and there are particular kind of instruments which are used as accompaniments. It initially started as a devotional dance in reverence of the Indian God Lord Krishna. But today the Garba is very synonymous with a lot of fanfare and enjoyment. It is mainly popular in the Navratri days  when people dance to glory singing  praises of Goddess Shakti.

The Goddess Amba is praised and worshipped during the Garba and her powers, beauty, and tolerance is invoked and it is prayed that all should be as successful as her. There are also Garbas which describe social themes and seasons too. The Damru, Nagara, Tabla, percussion, pot drum, Ravan hattho, Pavo, Jantar, shehani, turi, taturi and the murli are some of the Garba instruments.

Similarly the Raas is a kind of dance coming from the Saurashtra and Kachchh areas. Existing since the Puranas , this dance is danced by women and men together going around in circles. They beat either sticks or hands to the sound of the instruments accompanying them,.

Thus the Navratri festival is the ideal time to don the colorful Chaniya Choli and have fun with dancing the traditional Garba. 

With the Kathmandu Valley having the cities of Patan, Kathmandu and Bhaktapur, the place is rich in culture and architecture.

This temple is around 6 km from the city of Kathmandu. This is a holy temple of the Hindus and the presiding deity is the Indian God Shiva. Duck, chicken, goats are kept for sacrifice on Saturdays and Tuesdays. Nepal is full of stupas and the Boudanath stupa is one of them. Located around 11km from Kathmandu, this is the biggest of this type in the entire world. There are four eyes each signifying four direction. This also signifies that it looks out for prosperity of mankind and righteousness at all times. King Man Deva got this stupa built. The base is octagon shaped and has a prayer wheel at the inset. There are lot of residences of Buddhist priests in and around this place. The Buddhist priests are called Lamas.

The Sri Padamanabha Swamy temple is the major attraction here for the religiously inclined and it is amazing to see 365 pillars made of granite within the temple. The holy tank is good for a dip and the golden idol of the Indian God Lord Vishnu, built in Dravidian architectural elegance, gives the entire experience a good boost. The main feature of this temple is the 30m spire which rises into the sky. Here in November, the festival of Arattu is celebrated with a display of the best elephant procession.

Then you have the Padmanabhapuram Palace which is located inside the fort of the same name. The elegance and royalty of the palace strikes you as you walk through this wooden masterpiece of yore and the fact that this was the seat of the kings of Travancore makes you feel royal. Built by Iravi Varma in the 16th century, the palace has been named after Lord Vishnu.

Besides this, the Koyikkal Palace at Nedumnagad which is today a Numismatics Museum, and the Kanakakunnu palace, the Kuthiramalika Museum, the Kowdiar Palace, Pattom Palace are all good examples of superb architecture and excellent tourist spots. For the picnickers we have the Veli Lagoon, where you can go boating and also travel by the Kettuvalam or the rice boat.

The fauna at Lloyd’s Botanical Garden  is something of interest to the visitor. One also can see the highest racecourse in the world at Lebong.

The Tiger Hills which is internationally famous for its lovely sunset view and the beautiful scene of the Mt. Everest and the rhododendron trees at Phalut and Sandkpuhu as also the one horned rhino at Pashupati near the Nepal border add to the tourist’s delight. The elephant ride at Jaldapara Game Park and the Lepcha legendary stories on the River Teesta and Ranjeet add to the mystical element here. The Kalimpong market with its wares like musk, wool, and Tibetan medicine are a perfect purchase for the enthusiastic tourist.

The lake is a crystal clear sheet of water. Pangong Tso Lake is situated close to the Indo China Border. The lake is placed at the Changtang Plateau at the eastern Ladakh Plateau.
