The African country of Ghana is topographically consecrated with hundreds of miles of shoreline adorned with wonderful beaches, ancient European forts, national parks, cultural centres, lively hamlets, and historical and emotional reminders of African slaves.

Life here is quite public where people always like to come out of their homes and breathe in refreshing air due to roasting temperature. When I visited some famous villages and different beaches, it was very promising to see that people of modernizing Ghana belong to different culture and tribes, but all coexist, live in harmony, and happily welcome tourists.

My friend had booked a packaged tour as a surprise gift for me and enjoyably, we visited the following few but must visiting destinations.

Prime Attractions
  • Greater Accra:
Accra is the commercial and cultural hub of Ghana offering many attractions. Among them, we visited the Makola market (The Kojo Thompson Roa), which is the most colorful and interesting one in Africa where women traders throng. Then, the University of Ghana in Legon located at 14 km north is captivating for its Japanese architecture in tropical scenery. The National Museum on the Barnes Road exhibits the historic collections of ancient remnants, documents, and images. Lastly, the Accra Cultural Centre shows you some beautiful traditional handicrafts along with workshops and art galleries. If you want to buy some souvenirs made in clay, wood, and metal; do visit the local arts and crafts bazaars.
  • Busua and Dixcove:
Located at a comfortable 200 km drive from Accra through tro-tro or taxi, these are the two small hamlets that pull many visitors due to their alluring beaches. Busua with one hotel and no restaurant still attracts more visitors than Dixcove as it holds a long beach best for swimming and some surfing. Then, a 25-minute walk will take you to Dixcove that is a lively port. Here, the beach is ideal for surfers.
  • Fort Metal Cross:
This is a scenic fort that dominated the port town of Dixcove that has many stories terrifying stories of slavery here. Admission fees are 1.10$ per person with a camera fee of $0.5 opened from 9 am to 5 pm.
  • Fort Batenstein:
This is another ruined fort located in east along the beach from Busua at a distance of 2 km in the hamlet of Butre.
  • Korle Beach Resort:
This is an attractive resort where we spent some time situated on the Accra beach road. If you are looking for a budget hotel, it is there for you on Korle Gonno Beach front.
  • Brong Ahafo Region:
Here, we enjoyed exploring four different natural and historical sights. Firstly, the fuller waterfalls here are just superb and violent water forces on a two-tier rock heap. Next, the ancient city of Begro is a historic site where excavations of various items indicate the presence of a civil life dated centuries back and that they were in touch with the Arabs and southern Sudan empires in the 14th and 18th centuries. The Yeji port that we explored on the Vover Lake had some industrial and relaxation offers. Then, in the Bui National Park, we could see many hippopotamus that are in maximum here at Ghana. At the end, we visited the Friday Market at Techiman, which is the biggest and oldest weekly market in the country where you can see traders from Mali, Niger, and other West African countries.
  • Central Coastline:
This is the coastal belt offering old forts and castles erected by the European traders. We could visit the three close by World Heritage sites among these, which are the Elmina castle, St. Jago castle, and the Cape coast castle in a well-preserved state. The huge Cape Coast Castle has entry fees of $7/4 for adult/student respectively with a negligible photography few opened from 9 am to 5 pm dominating the shore. After visiting the castle with its museum, you would know that the Cape Coast was the biggest slave-trading hub in West Africa. Take up the guided tour for at least an hour to visit these castles.
  • Central Beaches:
Decorated with swaying palms, do visit the Brewa Beach, Sir Charles beach (Winneba), Elmina beach (near the castle), and Gomoa Fetteh beach famous as a picnic spot.
  • Kakum National Park:
Covered with serene virgin rainforest, you can take up the best walking tour here to explore the Ghana’s original plant world. In addition, you can opt for treetop canopy walkway and bird watching.

  • Paga Crocodile Pond:
Situated in the northeastern border of the country, Paga is a blessed land of friendly crocodiles.
  • Larabanga Mosque:
Situated in northern Ghana, this is the 13th century sacred site that is said to be made by the Moorish traders. Exhibiting the ancient architecture, this is believed to be the oldest mosque in the nation.

  • Larabanga Mystery Stone:
This is a legendary stone in the periphery of Larabanga in the North Ghana that when moved always comes back to its original place.
  • Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary:
This is the traditional African conservation in Ghana located in between the villages of Boabeng and Fiema. This sanctuary houses more than 200 Geoffrey’s Pied Columbus and 500 Campbell’s Mona Monkeys.
  • Wli Falls:
Situated at a distance of 20 km from Hohoe in the Wli Natural Reserve, it is famous for its fall all round the year. Here, do explore the nearby Agumatsa Wildlife Sanctuary that offers numerous fruit bats, monkeys, and antelopes.
