Great Barrier Reef and the Coral Sea

The Great Barrier Reef is the world largest reef system and it has about twenty nine hundred individual reefs,   the reef is located in the Coral Sea. The coral reef is built up of many millions of small tiny organisms called coral polyps.

According to the Australians the Great Barrier Reef is the eight wonder of the world. Then again, a lot of people feel that this is an understatement.  The Great Barrier Reef is the only living organism on plant earth that can be seen even from space.  The reef stretches for about twelve hundred miles.  This is located about ten to fifteen miles off the coast of Queensland. .

This one big reef is association of about twenty nine thousand smaller reefs.  And in the middle of all these there are about three hundred islands that are just lying there in between these larger islands. This happens to be the biggest marine preserve in the world. . This place has a very large part of the sea creature diversity.  There are about five hundred different species of hard and soft coral that is decorated very nicely. There are about one thousand five hundred different kinds of fish and about four thousand different kinds of mollusks.

There are a lot of things to do here. You can sail, snorkel and fly over the Great Barrier Reef. However diving in this place is beyond amazing. . There are many tour operating companies that offer many services and guarantee to make your diving experience amazing and absolutely satisfactory. . there is a place called quick silver which is a high tech wave [piercing , turbo powered catamaran that makes for a ninety minute trip that takes you through the glass bottomed platform.. here you can swim , snorkel , dive and scuba dive as well. . these travel in a semi submersible  containment that is like a mini submarine.  You should listen intently to your instructor as he or she would be giving you a continuous commentary on what is going on.  , so when you are looking outside your window, you will able to relate to exactly what in the instructors are talking about.

If the short tour wasn’t enough for you then you can take he four day cruise the coral princess or the coral princess two. These are cruises of about one hundred and twenty feet ships that offer you a host water sports and activities. There is a coral viewing excursion in a small glass bottomed boat.  .. Activities like reef fishing and a tour with trained marine biologists are some of what you can do. . If you ever wanted to scuba dive then you should enroll with the qualified personnel. These trainers will give you your introduction and probably even your first underwater lessons.

People across the globe think; that the Great Barrier Reef is the last best deep sea diving destination. However this is not true, the Coral Sea which lies not so far from the great reef even though it is even more beautiful in regard to diving.  The waters here are crystal clear and there are tall perpendicular drop offs that make for amazing diving sites. There is even a three hundred to four hundred foot visibility.

If you go diving here, you will come across huge clams that are about seven feet wide. Groupers weight about three hundred pounds. . You will also be able to see numerous turtle’s species and sharks in these amazing diving waters.  there are  lots of hard and soft colorful coral in this region as well. . A three hundred and sixty three wonder is a yongala. This is supposed to be the richest concentration of diverse aquatic and marine wildlife in the whole world.

Tour experience here is sure to be a memory that you could never forget.

Check out the quicksilver that has lunch including smorgasbord and diving equipment.  The best time to visit here is from July till  December.

The coral princess cruises depart from cairns and Townsville about four times in a week.

The best time to visit the region is October to November.
