Solomon islands is a state in the Oceania area which is made up of around one thousand islands. Before the united kingdom established a protectorate over the Solomon islands, the islands were inhabited by Melanesian people; for almost a millennium. The queen of England is the head of state in the Solomon islands.
Most of these islands are part of the Solomon islands’ rain-forest Eco-region. The islands have several active volcanic regions; with Tinakula and Kavachi being the most active compared to the others. The islands here have a very humid climate. It is best not to travel at night as the crime rate is high in this region. It would be recommended to take anti malaria pills while going to the islands just for precaution.
Guadalcanal Province and Honiara is the largest island in the Solomon islands. This area has relics from the world war two. It also has a lovely sea port and activities like diving are conducted here.
This place is known for its artificial islands which are built by boulders and sand.
The western province is the largest province in the region. It is known for its picturesque lagoons. The largest lagoon in the world – Marovo is found here.
This place has the Santa Cruz islands and the Duff islands which are volcanically active.
This place consists of the Savo, Russels and Nggela islands. Thermal springs and you find deep caves in this region as well.
This province has a few Eco tourist villages. Kia is the village which is built on stilts. You can also find turtle nesting grounds in the Arnavon islands.
Ancient burial grounds, temples and caves are found here. This place is also famous for its bird-life.
Burial chambers which have stone carvings, rivers and waterfalls and the lovely beaches here is what makes this place famous.
Diving :
The Solomon islands is known of the worlds most known diving sites. This is because the kind of marine fauna that is found here is not found anywhere else in the world. The water is nice and warm and the visibility is awesome. You will be able to find many diving tour operators. One of the coolest things to see here underwater is the wrecked relics of world war two which include a Japanese fighter plane, a Douglas dive bomber, a corsair and Nell bomber and many other such wreckages. The coral wall goes hundreds of meters deep into the water and it looks stunning.
